2010 Woman of the Year

The Billboard Women in Music gala event will be held in New York on 2 December 2010. Receiving a Billboard Magazine award is seen as an achievement and many wonderful female musicians have walked away with the Woman of the Year Award. This year the honors will go to Fergie, female vocalist for the Black Eyed Peas. This multi award, Grammy winning singer still feels humbled when recognized, an attribution that has gained her great popularity with fans over the years. In December, it will be her extraordinary talent that will be honored.

The Black Eyed Peas have enjoyed major success with numerous hits off their 2009 album The E.N.D, including I Gotta Feeling and Boom Boom Pow. Their sixth album, The Beginning, will be released in November. Fergie has not only enjoyed success with the Black Eyed Peas, but has also been able to maintain a solo career which she embarked on in 2006. She released the album The Dutchess. She also added to her musical successes by starting an acting career, creating a clothing line called Fergalicious and exploring a fragrance range under the name of Outspoken.

Bill Werde, the editor of Billboard Magazine, explained why Fergie has been selected for this year’s 2010 Woman of the Year Award, saying “Fergie took the music industry by storm the moment she came onto the scene, and we’re thrilled to celebrate her career achievements and incredible successes over the past year by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award.” He went on to say that “Fergie is a unique artist with great business savvy, style and an unbelievable dedication to philanthropic efforts, making her an inspiration to aspiring female artists everywhere.”

Fergie will be joining the ranks of artists such as Reba McEntire, Beyoncé and Ciara, who have previously won the Billboard Woman of the Year Award. This award pays tribute and brings recognition to the women of the music industry, their contributions and successes; forever carving their names in the annals of music history.
