2011 Hall of Fame Nominees
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was established in 1983. It was decided that as the well known disc jockey Alan Freed, who gained fame due to his promotion of the music genre of Rock 'n Roll, hailed from Cleveland, it would be the suitable location for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. This magnificent tribute to the music industry is therefore situated on the banks of the picturesque Lake Erie in Cleveland, and is home to the names of many famous musicians, producers and contributors to the music industry.

Ray Davies became known to the music industry as the songwriter and member of the band The Kinks. The Kinks were active from the year 1964, and rocked the music world with songs such as All Day and All of the Night and You Really Got Me. They became a big influence within the industry. After their break up in 1996, Ray Davies embarked on a solo career. Now, to celebrate his active years in the spotlight, numerous famous artists have lent their talents to a new album called See My Friends, featuring a diverse range of songs that were recorded and made famous by The Kinks.

To promote and develop the genre of country music in the western states of America, members of the West Coast music industry, the most notable being Eddie Dean, established the Academy of Country Music, also referred to as ACM, in the year 1964. Four years ago the ACM decided to create the ACM Honors, a ceremony separate from the famed ACM Awards, for special awards recipients along with non-televised category winners. The ACM Honors were held on Monday, 20 September 2010, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, and was hosted by none other than Lee Ann Womack.

In 2006 the Polaris Music Prize was inaugurated to pay tribute to Canadian musicians. A jury is selected to award the prize to the artist or group they think are most deserving. The artistic merit of the group is the most important to the jury, and features such as sales and genre are not taken into consideration. Based on the well known Mercury Prize, the Polaris Music Prize included a cash prize of C$20 000. At this year’s awards ceremony, which was hosted on Monday, 20 September 2010, the band Karkwa were awarded this prestigious prize.

The Participant Foundation is known for their tireless efforts and invaluable work in the public schools system. They work towards developing arts education and even music within these establishments, bringing joy and creativity to thousands of children each year. They do however depend on the funds that are donated to them, and in aid of this worthy cause, producer T Bone Burnett will be hosting two concerts to raise money for this project. The show is called Speaking Clock Revue and big names in the music industry, such as Elvis Costello, John Mellencamp, Gregg Allman and Elton John, have thrown their weight behind the concerts.
