Labor Day Concert in City of Brotherly Love
Standing with Philadelphia's mayor Michael Nutter on the steps of the city's art museum, (steps which Rocky fans are sure to recognize) New York-born rapper Jay-Z announced his intention to host a two-day music festival in the City of Brotherly Love. Featuring up to thirty acts, played across three stages at Fairmount Park on the 1st and 2nd of September, the "Budweiser Made in America" festival will include a range of genres, from rap to rock, R&B to Latin. Up to 70 percent of the acts are reportedly confirmed, and if Jay-Z has his way the program will include a performance by President Barack Obama.

Legendary reggae musician Bob Marley has been quoted as saying "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." Certainly, many would agree that music has enormous potential to influence emotions and behavior – and this has been the case for centuries. Defined as the study of social and cultural aspects of music and dance, both in a local and global context, the term ethnomusicology was created by Dutch scholar Jaap Kunst (1891-1960) as a more precise term for his research into the gamelan music of Indonesia. Taken from the Greek words for "nation" and "music", ethnomusicology is, in a nutshell, the study of "people making music" – as noted by Brown University professor of music, Jeff Todd Titon. Although originally referring to non-Western music, ethnomusicology has expanded to include the anthropological and sociological aspects of Western music traditions.

The 2012 Juno Awards are set to take place on April 1st at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa - with the legendary William Shatner as its host. The lineup for the evening includes City and Colour, deadmau5, Hedley, Blue Rodeo, Feist and Nickelback, with Hey Rosetta! and Sarah McLachlan being the latest additions to what promises to be an exciting and entertaining event.

With the prestigious Grammy Awards taking place this upcoming weekend, there is little doubt that Adele will be walking off with a number of the coveted awards. With six Grammy nominations – Records of the Year; Album of the Year; Song of the Year; Best Pop Solo Performance; Best Pop Vocal Album; and Best Short Form Music Video - Adele appears set to become one of the most successful British singers in history. Producers Paul Epworth (Rolling in the Deep and I'll be Waiting) and Ryan Tedder (Rumor Has It) have both been nominated for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.

The legendary music label Motown Records has announced that American R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has been appointed as the new Senior Vice President of A&R – Artists and Repertoire – at the Universal Music Group. Currently signed with Def Jam Recordings, the singer will move his work over to Motown, bringing his New-York based imprint Compound Entertainment with him. His new position will include talent-seeking and mentoring Motown label's artists. He will also continue with his own successful music career, with his fifth album due out this year.
