Europe’s Music Royalties Regulations Revised

Proposed European Union plans to end the current European system of collecting music royalties and replace it with regulations geared to the 21st century digital world, have been met with disapproval and consternation among a large contingent of songwriters, composers and musicians. Many artists view their music as being very personal and something which they should have exclusive control over. Music royalties, therefore, have traditionally served as a strong link to individual composers and songwriters who own the exclusive copyright to their creation.

Fans of the German group Tokio Hotel will be really excited to learn that the band is getting ready to tour the U.S. The band, which was formed in Magdeburg, Germany, in 2001, has already enjoyed four number one singles during the course of their career. Funeral For A Friend on Tour

Welsh band Funeral For A Friend have announced plans to tour the UK later this year. The tour will primarily promote the release of FFAF’s fourth album “Memory and Humanity” through their own label, Join Us Records, which is due out in October. Supporting acts on the tour will be Cancer Bats from Canada, In Case of Fire from Ireland, and Attack Attack from Wales.

2008 Essence Music Festival

Musicians and music-lovers will be flocking to New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival on the weekend of 4 to 6 July 2008. This popular event, which is a celebration of black music and culture, is back in its home-town of New Orleans for the second time, after being displaced for a short while by the devastating Hurricane Katrina.
