Anyone who has been gaming for the last twenty years or so will have heard a chiptune more than once – though they may not have known what it was called at the time. Chip music or ‘chiptunes’ was commonly used to create computer or video game sounds between the mid 1980s and early 1990s.

I’m Not There – The Bob Dylan Biopic

The new movie, “I’m Not There”, directed by Todd Haynes, features six different actors portraying legendary musician Bob Dylan, during different times of his long and interesting career in the music industry. In the movie none of the six actors are actually playing Bob Dylan. They play fictitious characters with each of them acting out a time period of Bob Dylan’s life in a blend of fact and fiction.

2008 Spark Festival of Electronic Music

The Spark Festival of Electronic Music and Art has been held every year since 2005. It is a celebrated annual music and art even that is organized by the University of Minnesota and it is held in and around the west bank theatre district in Minneapolis as well as the adjoining Minnesota University’s West Bank Arts Quarter.

Many talented young people are cheated of the opportunity to pursue their creative abilities and musical fortes because of a lack of funds and support. The Kiwanis Club of Toronto consists of professionals, educational representatives and entrepreneurs who work together to find and develop opportunities and projects to enhance the future of the community and their children. And one of the noteworthy projects that has stemmed from this mission is the Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto.

Function of the American Federation of Musicians

The idea of having a society or union to protect the interests of musicians and to aid them while developing their careers started in the 1800s. Musicians realized that they needed financial assistance and insurance against illness or any situation that might render them unable to perform, leading to a loss of income. The first form of this was the Mutual Aid Societies. Unfortunately, competition was cut throat to retain clients, which eventually led to a meeting between the unions and the decision to create one central body. In 1896, the American Federation of Musicians was formed, with the first president being Owen Miller, who presided over the establishment until 1900.
