Spoleto Festival 2011 Lineup

Gian Carlo Menotti, composer and Pulitzer Prize winner, founded the Spoleto Festival USA in the year 1977. To enhance the beauty of the festival that takes place in the city of Spoleto, Italy, each year, Menotti searched for a location in the United States that also had numerous churches and theatres, finding the ideal festival venue in Charleston. Its historical background and variety of performing venues has ensured that the city has remained the host of the Spoleto Festival for thirty-four years, and the organizing of the 35th festival has been underway for months.

2011 Hall of Fame Inductees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was inaugurated in 1983, but the breathtaking building along Lake Erie in Cleveland was only opened in 1995. It is an organization that is dedicated to paying tribute to members of the music industry who have made noteworthy contributions, such as producers, writers, musicians and singers. Some artists have been waiting many years to make it even as far as the nominations list, and many are still waiting, but the news for artists such as Alice Cooper and Neil Diamond was in their favor this year, with the confirmation of being 2011 Hall of Fame inductees.

100 Years for San Francisco Symphony

The San Francisco Symphony was established in the year 1911, with Henry Hadley as their conductor. With sixty musicians under his leadership, Hadley presented thirteen concerts in their first season, presenting music by composers such as Liszt, Wagner and Tchaikovsky. In 1995, Michael Tilson Thomas took over the music director’s position with the San Francisco Symphony. Now, with their 100 year anniversary around the corner, the symphony is planning a celebration like no other.

Black Eyed Peas at Super Bowl

Since the famous wardrobe malfunction in 2004, when Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson performed at the Super Bowl, organizers have been making more select choices when deciding on the half-time performers. Pop musicians remained off the consideration list, with artists such as Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney being invited to perform at this prestigious sporting event. This year, however, it seems that officials have decided to give the pop music genre another chance, and is has been confirmed that the Black Eyed Peas will be the half-time headliners of the Super Bowl XLV.

2010 Canadian Folk Music Awards

Canadian folk music has always been a vital part of the tradition and heritage of the country. Until 2005 there were no awards or recognition given to artists, groups or duos keeping the musical roots of Canada alive. The Canadian Folk Music Awards were therefore created to honor those in the folk music industry. This year, the sixth Canadian Folk Music Awards ceremony was held at the Pantages Playhouse in Winnipeg, on Saturday, 20 November 2010.
