Motown: The Musical on Broadway in 2013

Founded by Berry Gordy in 1959, Motown Records was the driving force behind discovering and promoting a host of music legends, including the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and The Supremes, the Miracles, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and many more. Now Berry Gordon is taking the magic to Broadway with Motown: The Musical, with previews beginning on March 11, 2013, and the show running from April 14 to June 22 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater. The show will feature the music and rise to fame stories of many of the early Motown superstars and the role Gordy played in their success.

Musicians Honor John Cage on Centenary of his Birth

In the week of September 5, 2012, celebrations were held in a number of venues across the world in honor of the centenary of the birth of John Cage – an American composer, music theorist, artist and writer who was considered to be ahead of his time in the music world and who gathered a devoted following of fans throughout his career and beyond. He was a pioneer in a range of music genres and concepts, including the use of musical instruments in unconventional ways and electroacoustic music. Together with long-time partner Merce Cunningham, John Cage also influenced the development of modern dance.

Walk of Fame Star for Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond will be honored with a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame on 10 August 2012, with the ceremony taking place in front of the Capitol Records Building at 1750 N. Vine Street. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the legendary singer/songwriter's best-selling double album Hot August Night. When announcing the event, a spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce noted that Diamond is "one busy man" noting that they are "thrilled to honor this legendary performer."

2012 Polaris Music Prize Long-List Published

Established in 2006, the Polaris Music Prize is an annual music award for the best full-length Canadian album based purely on artistic merit. The stated mission of the Polaris Music Prize is to celebrate and reward diversity and creativity in Canadian recorded music. With no submission process, or entry fee, all Canadian albums of more than 30 minutes and/or eight tracks, released within a given time-frame, automatically qualify for the long-list. Finalists are then selected by a jury including music journalists, bloggers, broadcasters and other Canadian music industry experts. At an event in Vancouver yesterday, the long-list of nominees for the 2012 Polaris Music Prize was made public and they are listed below, in no particular order.Read more..
