Pearl Jam's Twenty Years Celebrated

Pearl Jam celebrated their 20th anniversary this weekend with the release of the documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, as well as a rocking concert. The documentary, produced and directed by Cameron Crowe, provides deep insight into the band, with unique footage, interviews and live concert footage. Pearl Jam Twenty follows the iconic band from formation to stardom and all the emotions in between. The film was released at Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, 10 September 2011.

Bluegrass Awards Nominees

The International Bluegrass Music Association was established in 1985 to promote and develop the music genre of bluegrass. The International Bluegrass Music Museum followed shortly thereafter in 1988. In 1990 the World of Bluegrass was founded, which is a combination of their award evening, together with a concert and a trade show. A year later the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor was established in the Bluegrass Music Museum. The association is now gearing up for another awards ceremony by releasing the nominations for the 2011 awards.

Home for Music Hall of Fame

It is the ideal location for a museum, as the old First National Bank building in Port Jefferson is a historic landmark in the town. It will not only become home to a new museum but also for the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. A lease has been signed for fifteen years, finally giving the Long Island Music Hall of Fame a place to call their own after only operating as a website for many years. Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld stated that it was an honor to have the Hall of Fame located in a city that boasts a long and successful musical heritage.

A Tribute to Amy Winehouse

The music industry and fans bid a sad farewell to yet another young star lost too soon. Renowned singer Amy Winehouse died on Saturday, 23 July 2011, at the age of 27. She gained fame for her soulful music and smoky voice. It is said that her grittiness and unique sound opened the way for fellow Brits, such as Adele, Duffy, Eliza Doolittle and Lily Allen, to make it onto the American music scene. Amy Winehouse will be remembered for her musical genius, as well as her wild lifestyle.

Music Sales on the Rise Again

For the first time in seven years album sales have gone up by seven percent and it is in part thanks to artists such as Lady Gaga, Adele and Katy Perry. To make matters even more interesting, it is only halfway through the year, and last year the sales were a little less than a hundred and fifty-four million, with this year showing sales of a hundred and fifty-five million within the first six months. When looking at the Nielson SoundScan midyear report, it is apparent that the decline in album sales that the industry was experiencing is slowly seeing a turnaround.
