Goo Goo Dolls Tour the UK

Fans of the Goo Goo Dolls are no doubt thrilled that the band will be touring in the UK in July. The band will be making an appearance on the Main Stage at the 2008 O2 Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park on Sunday 6 July as part of their tour.

The Goo Goo Dolls kick off their UK tour with two concerts at the Dublin Ambassador on 3 and 4 July. Then on Sunday 6 July they appear at the 02 Wireless Festival, followed up by performances at the Sheffield Academy (7 July), Nottingham Rock City (8 July), Newcastle Academy (10 July) and finishing up with a performance at the Liverpool Academy on 11 July 2008.

It should come as no surprise to Goo Goo Dolls fans that John Rzeznik was selected to receive the prestigious Hal David Starlight Award, presented by Hal David at the 2008 Songwriters Hall of Fame awards dinner on 19 June. The Hal David Starlight Award is presented in recognition of gifted songwriters who are seen to be making a noteworthy impact on the music industry.

Hal David is a successful songwriter in his own right, as well as being the Chairman and CEO of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The award was established in 2004 and named in his honor in recognition of his consistent efforts in encouraging new songwriting talent. He has been quoted as saying that John Rzeznik is “not only an outstanding, talented songwriter, but one with a unique vision”. On receiving the Hal David Starlight Award, John Rzeznik joins the ranks of songwriting superstars Rob Thomas, John Mayer, John Legend and Alicia Keys.

John Rzeznik has more than proven his talent as a songwriter, with a series of chart-topping songs to his name. The song ”Iris”, written in 1998 for the movie “City of Angels”, was nominated for three Grammy Awards, spending close to a year on Billboard’s airplay charts with eighteen weeks at the number one spot. “Iris” certainly put the spotlight on the Goo Goo Dolls, and their fan-base continued to steadily increase, with fans eagerly awaiting new offerings from John Rzeznik – and never being disappointed. The band has released eight albums, with a new release expected later this year. Fans can also expect a brand new single to be released through iTunes on 7 July 2008.

Goo Goo Dolls fans should waste no time in getting their UK tour tickets for a memorable performance by talented musicians John Rzeznik, Robby Takac and Mike Malinin.
