Jessie J is a Rising Star

The Sound Of list was introduced in the year 2003, with 50 Cent taking the number one slot on the top ten listing. Approximately a hundred and forty music critics, journalist and industry members weigh in on the decision, offer their opinions, and the top spot is then chosen according to the votes. It is run by the BBC and nominates the artist whom the public should look out for and who is considered to be the top up-and-coming act for the year. The Sound of 2011 list has recently been released, and Jessie J has found herself at number one.

At the tender age of twenty-two, Jessie J, born Jessie Cornish, launched her solo career in 2010 and has enjoyed much success. Raised in Essex, Jessie attended the Brit School for Performing Arts. She hit the charts, making it into the top thirty with her debut single Do It Like A Dude. This talented songwriter was going to offer the single to Rihanna, but on the advice of Justin Timberlake she kept the single and performed it herself, which turned out to be very good advice taken. Jessie J is now signed to the same record label as U2 and Amy Winehouse, Island Records, and has co-written the hit song Party in the USA, performed by Miley Cyrus. She is also in line to join the music elite at the O2 Arena in February, where the Brit Awards are to be hosted, to accept a Critic’s Choice Award.

Previous Sound Of winners have included The Bravery, Adele, Mika, Keane, Ellie Goulding, Little Boots and Corinne Baily Rae. On hearing the overwhelming news, Jessie J said, “It feels amazing to be accepted on such a broad scale. I know I’m doing something right and I’ve got to keep doing it. It’s an honor.” She went on to say, “The expectation of me at the moment is so high, but I thrive on knowing people have that expectation. It’s a challenge.” Others have also recognized her talent, with Austin Daboh (BBC Music Manager) commenting that “From the minute I saw a homemade video of Jessie singing her head off, I knew she was a talent.” It seems that Jessie J’s star has now started to rise, and fans can get ready to see great things from this immensely talented singer and songwriter.
