NME Awards Tour Headlined by Glasvegas

The Scottish rock band known as Glasvegas has been steadily growing in popularity over the past few years. Today they are a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and are a logical choice to headline the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour that has been planned for 2009. They certainly have been busy during the course of this year, releasing one album and getting ready to release a second before the year is out.

Glasvegas got its start in 2001 in Glasgow, Scotland, and has since gone from strength to strength. The band has released one studio album (Glasvegas) as well as six singles ("I'm Gonna Get Stabbed"/"Ina Lvs Rab", “Go Square Go!”, “Daddy’s Gone” – original single, “It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry”, “Geraldine” and “Daddy’s Gone” – Glasvegas album). They are also getting ready to release their second studio album, “A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss)” on December 1, 2008. Current band members are James Allan (vocals, rhythm guitar), Paul Donoghue (bass guitar, backing vocals), Caroline McKay (drums) and Rab Allan (lead guitar, backing vocals).

The Shockwaves NME Awards Tour 2009 will commence in Liverpool on January 29 before traveling to the Glasgow Academy on Friday 30th. On February 1st it will continue at Newcastle Academy before traveling to the Sheffield Academy on February 3. Birmingham Academy is the location of choice for February 4 and after that it is off to Manchester Academy on February 6. The tour will then continue to Leeds Academy (Feb 8), Lincolnshire Engine Shed (Feb 10), Nottingham Rock City (Feb 11), Norwich UEA (Feb 12), Cardiff University (Feb 14), Bristol Academy (Feb 15), Brighton Dome (Feb 16), Oxford Academy (Feb 17), Portsmouth Pyramid (Feb 19) and Cambridge Corn Exchange (Feb 20) before the tour ends at the London Brixton Academy (Feb 21).

American fans will be pleased to know that the band will also be visiting the States prior to participating in the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour when they will appear on the Dave Letterman Show on January 5 and The Late Late Show on January 14. If you’re a Glasvegas fan, make sure that you don’t miss out on this great opportunity to see the band live!
