Pearl Jam’s Twenty Years Celebrated

Pearl Jam celebrated their 20th anniversary this weekend with the release of the documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, as well as a rocking concert. The documentary, produced and directed by Cameron Crowe, provides deep insight into the band, with unique footage, interviews and live concert footage. Pearl Jam Twenty follows the iconic band from formation to stardom and all the emotions in between. The film was released at Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, 10 September 2011.

The members of Pearl Jam are Eddie Vedder (Guitar and Vocals), Mike McCready (Guitar), Stone Gossard (Guitar), Jeff Ament (Bass), and Matt Cameron (Drums and Percussion). The band recorded their debut album, called Ten, in 1991 at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, USA. With the success of the album, Pearl Jam became a part of the grunge scene in Seattle at the time, joining bands such as Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. Facing the challenges of success, Pearl Jam went on to release Vs. in 1993. The albums that followed were Vitalogy (1994), No Code (1996), Yield (1998), Binaural (2000), Riot Act (2002), Pearl Jam (2006) and Backspacer (2009).

Unlike other grunge bands of the 1990s, Pearl Jam had a more classic rock sound and was largely influenced by the Ramones, Neil Young and The Who. Pearl Jam became one of the most popular bands of the 1990s and inspired many other bands. The band has received the admiration of many for not pursuing the usual rock star excesses, as well as always supporting the causes it believes in. Throughout the twenty years of their existence, Pearl Jam has received 11 music awards, as well as 37 nominations.

International fans of Pearl Jam can look forward to the release of Pearl Jam Twenty worldwide on 20 September 2011 in various venues for one night.
