Coldplay Win Big At World Music Awards

Coldplay has always been a great band and fans will argue that they’ve always been the best band. Now, it seems, its official – Coldplay were officially named the top-selling act of 2008 at the World Music Awards held in Monaco on November 9, 2008. Their impressive collection of No. 1 albums is certainly proof of the pudding.

The British band beat off fierce contenders for the award earlier this year when they released their fourth album, Viva La Vida, with great success. The album shot straight to number one on the charts and was snatched up around the globe as fans raced to stores to get more of Coldplay’s awesome sound. The resulting sales shot them to the top of the sales list and earned them a reputation for being the top-selling act of 2008. The band, which is fronted by Chris Martin, also beat off rock royalty such as REM, Metallica and Kings of Leon to collect a second award, “World’s Best Rock Act”, and a third award, “Best Selling Artist From GB.” The four band members unfortunately weren’t present at the award ceremony to receive their prize in person.

The World Music Awards were established 20 years ago as part of efforts to honor various recording artists for their global successes. The awards are determined on world-wide sales figures and reflect popular trends on a global and local scale.
