Big 4 at Sonisphere Festival 2011

Stuart Galbraith saw the opportunity for creating a new festival while assisting with the organization of the well known Download Festival, and began to develop his ideas into reality. His vision for the Sonisphere Festival only started taking shape after joining Kilimanjaro Live, an events company, and in 2009 the inauguration of the festival took place. The Sonisphere Festival is dedicated to alternative rock, hard rock, punk rock and heavy metal, allowing metal and rock fans to attend a festival designed specifically for them. It also features the Big 4 event during the festival, which has become the highlight of the Sonisphere Festival.

The festival kicks off in July each year and runs through to August, entertaining music enthusiasts across the European continent, as well as the United Kingdom. This massive festival is gearing up for its 2011 season, and the Big 4 for this year will be none other than Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. To see musical legends share a stage is an occasion most can only dream of. Last year the festival drew more than five hundred thousand screaming fans. Bringing these four bands to the United Kingdom is extremely special, not only for the music lovers, but for the organizers and bands as well.

Lars Ulrich of Metallica spoke about their appearance at the Knebworth House, from 8 to 10 July 2011, saying “As soon as the Big 4 gigs started rolling across Sonisphere Festivals in Eastern Europe last summer, we all felt we were part of something special. The vibe within the bands was more than anyone had anticipated and the vibe with the fans was so next level, it completely blew our minds . . . there was no way this should not happen again! So I am beyond psyched that the first Big 4 show in Western Europe will take place on the hallowed grounds of Knebworth, where so many unique and special gigs have happened over the years. There is simply no better venue for a European round two of the Big 4! Put your dancing shoes on, this is gonna be fun!”

For Anthrax, it is again a pleasure to work with the fellow Big 4 members, commenting about their UK leg of the tour, “Merry early Xmas present for us… more BIG 4 shows! The shows we did together with our brothers in Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth were not only the high point of 2010, but also some of the best shows Anthrax have ever played. Getting to share this with our friends in the UK will be amazing.”
