South Padre International Music Festival
Kicking off on Friday 2 November 2007, the inaugural South Padre International Music Festival will be featuring more than forty acts from around the world. These musicians will be there to entertain and be entertained as they join in the non-stop music festival party fever that is set to continue through to Sunday 4 November.
The line-up for the South Padre International Music Festival is truly impressive. Mexican rock group Jaguares (previously Caifanes), who are celebrating their twentieth anniversary in the music world, will perform at the festival. The band’s first album sold nearly 80,000 copies when it was released in 1987. The success of this album was a milestone in Mexican rock history with a new generation of artists creating a new, and sometimes defiant, music genre that struck a responsive chord with many people. Although their music is rooted in Mexican tradition, Jaquares have steadily gathered fans throughout the United States, Central America and South America and continue to play at sold-out venues.
Reckless Kelly will be taking the stage to showcase their brand of music which has received praise from critics as well as fellow musicians. The Reader’s Poll which is conducted annually by the Austin Chronicle named Reckless Kelly as “Best Roots-Rock Band” for five years running.
Grupo Fantasma has been haled as one of the all-time great Texas dance bands. The eleven members of this dynamic band come from the various parts of the world, including New York City, and Managua in Nicaragua, but are united in their love of music and audiences respond enthusiastically wherever Grupo Fantasma performs.
Patrice Pike started writing lyrics when she was sixteen years old and initially gained recognition as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for “Sister Seven”. After a number of years together the band split up. Patrice Pike continued solo and has performed on stage with many well known artists such as Dave Matthews, Sarah McLachlan and the Allman Brothers. The release of her first solo album “Fencing Under Fire” was well received and Patrice Pike has established herself as one of the best independent artists today.
Other bands and solo musicians that will be performing during the weekend of the South Padre International Music Festival include Robert Earle Keen, Mike Doughty, Kathleen Braun, Boombox and Frontera Jazz Quartet. There promises to be something for every one at the South Padre International Music Festival.
South Padre Island is geared up for welcoming visitors and offers stunning beaches, warm water, bird-watching, fishing and boating. Add to this the excitement of the South Padre International Music Festival and there are many compelling reasons for visiting this unique island from 2 to 4 November 2007.
