Top Musicians at the American Music Awards

It seems that it was Chris Brown who dominated this year’s American Music Awards. The music award ceremony took place on Sunday night and saw Brown taking three of the coveted trophies home with him.

It was a riveting music award ceremony to say the least. Top musicians and artists from around the country were on hand to receive their trophies and perform during the course of the evening. Some of the combinations seemed somewhat bizarre – like when Pink joined Sara McLachlan for a duet version of Sarah McLachlan’s song Angel. Other performances were somewhat startling, such as when Miley Cyrus celebrated the fact that she’d just turned 16 by performing a somewhat saucy version of her new single ‘Fly on the Wall’. All in all, the evening was a huge success with numerous musicians awarded for their efforts in the music industry.

Chris Brown was honored with the music awards for ‘Artist Of The Year’, ‘Male Pop/Rock Artist’ and ‘Male Rap/Hip-hop Artist’. He remarked that he would have given his one award to Coldplay and was clearly surprised at his winning the music awards. Meanwhile, Kanye West was a sore loser last year when he missed out on the Male Rap/Hip-hop Artist’ award, but this year he expressed that Lil’ Wayne deserved it more during his acceptance speech. Kanye West argued that he had deserved the trophy last year, but this year it was Lil’ Wayne that should have won it. West also won the Graduation Trophy.

Alicia Keys was honored with two American Music Awards – ‘Female Pop/Rock Artist’ and ‘Female Soul/R&B Artist’. She flashed her beautiful smile, let out a loud ‘woup!’ and dedicated her victory to the many women who struggle to make it through from day to day. Alicia Keys was also one of the performers that night and she collaborated with Queen Latifah and Kathleen Battle to perform a stirring rendition of Key’s song ‘Superwoman’. Other noteworthy winners were Daughtry (Pop/Rock Group), Jordiin Sparks (Adult Contemporary), Carrie Underwood (Country Album – Carnival Ride), Taylor Swift (Female Country Artist), Rihanna (Pop/Rock Female Artist, Female Soul/R&B Artist), Rascal Flatts (Country Band), Linkin Park (Alternative Rock) and Brad Paisley (Male Country Artist). Other performers at the event include Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, West, Rihanna, Mariah Carey and the Jonas Brothers (Breatkthrough Artist). See the official website for more details.
