2010 CMA Award Winners

In 1967, the inaugural ceremony for the Country Music Association Awards was held in the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, and since that moment the awards have grown in popularity and in prestige. After being held at various venues throughout the years, the awards found a permanent home in 2006 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Business members, who are a part of the Country Music Association, vote for the winners of the various awards. On 10 November 2010, new winners walked away with their glass trophies and the honor of being a CMA Award winning performer.

Miranda Lambert could not have celebrated her birthday in a better way than at the 2010 CMA Awards, as she not only received one of the top awards, namely the Female Vocalist of the Year Award, but also the Album of the Year, Video of the Year and Song of the Year Awards. This young artist was overwhelmed by her awards, commenting: “It’s my 10th year making music for a living. I started my first band when I was 17 and got paid $50 a night to play in a bar. And now here I am with three CMAs in my arms. I really feel more levelheaded than I thought I would because I hope it’s the beginning. I hope that I’m here 40 years from now, handing out an award like Loretta handed to me.”

The Entertainer of the Year Award went to Brad Paisley, who could not contain his emotions on stage, saying: “First of all I want to talk to the fans. It sounds like a cliché when you say ‘thanks to the fans’, but the great thing about Country fans is when you say ‘fans’, I don’t even mean mine. You guys are loyal to everyone in this room. It’s the most amazing, loyal fanbase in the world. And my grandfather, tonight for me is about him. This is a man who loved Buck Owens and he loved Johnny Cash and these people. And, he said, ‘I want you to learn to play the guitar because this is going to get you through lonely times and you’ll never be alone with this.’ And, I don’t think he ever thought that it would draw 20,000 people. But, I think about him tonight.”
