Black Eyed Peas at Super Bowl

Since the famous wardrobe malfunction in 2004, when Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson performed at the Super Bowl, organizers have been making more select choices when deciding on the half-time performers. Pop musicians remained off the consideration list, with artists such as Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney being invited to perform at this prestigious sporting event. This year, however, it seems that officials have decided to give the pop music genre another chance, and is has been confirmed that the Black Eyed Peas will be the half-time headliners of the Super Bowl XLV.

The Black Eyed Peas burst onto the music scene in 2003 with an album called Elephunk. The band had been formed in 1995, and released two albums, but it was their third album that caught the attention of fans and went on to sell approximately twenty-seven million albums. The band consists of Fergie, apl.de.ap, will.i.am and Taboo. Since “Where Is The Love” hit the airwaves, the band has been hot property. Other singles, of which they have sold about twenty million copies, such as “Meet Me Halfway”, “Shut Up”, “My Humps”, “Don’t Phunk With My Heart”, “I Gotta Feeling”, “Boom Boom Pow”, “Imma Be” and “Rock That Body”, has left fans screaming for more and skyrocketed the band to iconic status. The band has also won numerous Grammy Awards, such as Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (2005 – Let’s Get It Started / 2006 – Don’t Funk With My Heart), Best Pop Performance By Duo or Group (2007 – My Humps / 2010 – I Gotta Feeling), Best Pop Vocal Album (2010 – The E.N.D) and Best Short Form Music Video (2010 – Boom Boom Pow).
