One Love Festival 2010
The National Arena in Kingston was the host to the very first One Love concert. To bring peace amongst fighting political parties, Bob Marley and The Wailers performed at a One Love Peace Concert in the year 1978, and assisted in bringing calm to a fast growing civil war. The concert made a huge impression on the reggae community and music enthusiasts of this genre. Today the message of peace and unity can still be enjoyed at the One Love Festival. The 2010 One Love Festival, will be hosted in London’s Hainault Forest Country Park, filling the air with music and celebration.
Continuing the philosophy of “One Love, One Heart”, the One Love Festival will coincide with Jamaica’s 48th independence anniversary and will take place from the 6th to the 8th of August 2010. To highlight the legendary roots of the festival, organizers have included activities such as Caribbean Carnival processions, woodland walks, trade fair villages and petting zoos to their festival line-up. A massive campsite has been erected to accommodate festival-goers as well as a star-studded group of performers to entertain music enthusiasts. One of the most anticipated performances will be from Julian Marley. As the son of the great Bob Marley, Julian Marley will be representing an icon who has become synonymous with the genre of reggae.
Other artists to look forward to at the One Love Festival 2010 include Vibronics, Michael Prophet, Mungo Hi-Fi, Gappy Ranks, Soothsayers, Fabio, Luciano, Benjamin Zephaniah, Don Letts, Tippa Irie, Ras Kwame, Dubmatrix, Robbo Ranx, Channel One Sound System, Earl 16, Lloyd Brown, Radkal Guru and Winston Mcanuff, to name but a few. The festival has also ensured that the event is as environmentally friendly as possible, installing compost toilets, solar powered showers in the campsites and recycling projects throughout the festival. One Love Records, associated with the festival, is also proud to have been able to release a new album that is already available from the festival store, named “On The Level Volume 1”. Reggae lovers will be able to enjoy seventeen exclusive tracks, by artists including Dubwise, Jungle and Root, Steppas and Future Dub.
