Subdued Stringband Jamboree 2008
The Subdued Stringband Jamboree is just that – a subdued but enjoyable little music festival held in Bellingham, Washington, every year. The event has been growing steadily since its inception in 2001 and it is now quite a popular annual festival.
The festival was thrown together through the hard work of band members who saw the need to create a music festival in their home town. The festival has been held at the Deming Log Show Fairgrounds since its second year and a lot of promotional and organizational work is still done by the bands participating in the event. One thing that is somewhat unique to the Jamboree is the Slanted Stage, which is located off to the side of the main stage and enables festival-goers to enjoy the music non-stop. The general program features plenty of staged music, followed by a ‘chill-out’ session around the fire where songs are played and band members and musicians interact with their audience on a more personal note until the early hours of the morning. In 2006 the festival was extended to two-days and it now enjoys two great nights of campfire sessions.
This year will see the 8th installment of the annual Subdued Stringband Jamboree. Over the course of the two nights more than 70 local musicians, 20 stringbands and a few national acts will be playing in a fun-filled, friendly atmosphere to provide you with a phenomenal weekend of musical entertainment. Over the eight years that the festival has been running its focus has remained the same and though it has gained popularity and grown in numbers, it continues to be a heartfelt, family-orientated affair. Kids are given free admission, but dogs are not permitted on the fair grounds.
The Subdued Stringband Jamboree is so popular that it was recently voted the Best Festival in Bellingham by readers of Cascadia Weekly. The 2008 Subdued Stringband Jamboree will be held on August 8th and 9th at the Deming Log Show Fairgrounds. Why not book your ticket now to make sure that you don’t miss out? You wont regret making this music festival a part of your yearly festival itinerary!
