MTV Europe Music Award Nominations

It’s that time of the year again when MTV Europe gets ready to reward the most popular faces in the music industry and already there is a clamour of excitement in the air as this year’s nominees were announced. It seems that so far Britney Spears, Duffy and Coldplay have the most nominations.

Things started to get exciting for this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards when the nominees were announced on Sunday, September 28. There are seven categories with five nominees in each category, a total of 35 different nominees – or at least there would be 35 different nominees if Coldplay, Duffy, Britney Spears and Leona Lewis were only nominated for one category each. Instead Coldplay and Duffy have each managed to get three nominations in some rather important categories while Britney and Leona Lewis each have two nominations. Linkin Park and Metallica also have two nominations each.

When one looks at the list of nominees, it seems clear that the Jonas Brothers are facing steep competition from Miley Cyrus for the New Act award, which Duffy, Katy Perry and One Republic have also been nominated for. Britney also won’t have it easy, vying for the Act Of 2008 award against the likes of Coldplay, Rihanna, Leona Lewis and Amy Whinehouse. Competitors for Album Of The Year are Britney Spears, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Duffy and Leona Lewis, while the nominees for best Headliner are: Foo Fighters, Metallica, The Cure, Tokio Hotel and Linkin Park. Coldplay, Duffy, Kid Rock, Katy Perry and Pink have all got songs that might win Most Addictive Track, while Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Kanye West and Lil Wayne fight it out for the Ultimate Urban award. The nominees for the Rock Out award are: 30 Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park, Metallica, Paramore and Slipknot.

The award ceremony will take place at the Liverpool Echo Arena on November 6 and all the biggest names in the business will be attending or performing. In the meantime the public can get involved by voting online through the EMA website. So get voting now and make sure that your favourite band comes out tops at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards.
