The Prodigy Recognized for Musical Contributions

The well-known electronic dance group The Prodigy was formed in 1990 by Liam Howlett. The band has been a significant contributor to the big beat music genre and has successfully sold more than twenty million albums. The ability of band members Liam Howlett, Leeroy Thornhill, Maxim and Keith Flint to incorporate breakbeat, techno, rave and industrial during their performances has catapulted them to the top of their league. Their contributions to the music industry were recently recognized by the GlobalGathering festival.

Fans have become accustomed to the unique sound of The Prodigy through hit songs such as Breathe, Warrior’s Dance, Out of Space, Poison, Omen and Firestarter. Their top albums have included The Fat of the Land, Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned, Invaders Must Die and Music For The Jilted Generation. This year they came up against formidable nominees in the GlobalGathering survey, but walked away victorious after being honored as the Most Influential Dance Act of all time.

The GlobalGathering was established in 2001 and is a festival that is hosted in various countries around the world. It is an event that promotes the electronic music industry and its artists and assists in the development of this music genre. Thousands of fans flock to this festival each year. A survey was conducted to determine which band or artist was seen as the most influential by fans. The Prodigy trumped the voting poll, with the other performers to fall within the top ten, being Daft Punk (2), Faithless (3), New Order (4), Orbital (5), Kraftwerk (6), Paul Oakenfold (7), Carl Cox (8), Fatboy Slim (9) and Chemical Brothers (10).

The GlobalGathering UK will be hosted on the 30th and 31st of July 2010 at Stratford-Upon-Avon, and will feature some of these top ten acts. Festival organizer, James Algate, commented on the festival, saying: “Dance music is constantly evolving but it’s great to see The Prodigy getting the recognition they so richly deserve. We are also thrilled to have so many of our past performers make the cut with the unstoppable Carl Cox and headliners Faithless returning for the 10th year of the festival this year.” Club goers and festival enthusiasts have shown their appreciation for the contributions made to the electronic dance music industry by voting The Prodigy as the top dogs of this genre.
