Get Ready for Globaltica 2008
The bustling city of Gdynia in Poland will host Globaltica 2008 from the 25th through to the 27th of July. This popular international music festival invites artists and audiences from all over the world to gather in Kolibki Park for a three-day music and culture celebration. A full program of exciting events will take place on two stages in the park and audiences can look forward to memorable performances by a range of talented artists.
On Friday 25 July the Main Stage program will feature Vinicius Cantuaria, a celebrated Brazilian composer, guitarist, singer and percussionist who has written songs which have been recorded by a number of Brazil’s top artists. Audiences will experience first-hand what makes this talented musician popular, as he entertains the crowds with his unique blend of classic bossa nova and 21st century elements. Cantuaria has collaborated with the likes of David Byrne, Bill Frisell and Angelique Kidjo.
Natacha Atlas will unleash her incredible talent on the main stage on Friday. This charismatic young woman already has a string of achievements to her name and has a wide following of fans. Her latest album, “Mish Maoul”, reflects her formative years which were spent in the Moroccan suburb of Brussels as well as her Egyptian heritage. Natacha Atlas has worked with many famous artists, including Sinead O’Connor, who will be appearing on the Main Stage of Globaltica on Saturday.
In addition to Irish songbird Sinead O’Connor, the Main Stage program for Globaltica on Saturday includes Oi Va Voi from the UK and Seun Kuti from Nigeria, as well as Austrian DJ, Dunkelbunt.
Sunday’s program includes one of Russia’s most popular alternative music groups, Leningrad. This accomplished group of musicians has turned out ten successful albums. Their lyrics, which embrace everyday people and situations common to the majority of mankind, along with their folk rock style strikes a responsive chord in audiences, earning them a large following of fans. Polish alternative rock group, Strachy na Lachy will also be under the Main Stage spotlight on Sunday.
The Second Stage will feature literary meetings as well as performances by Shamans from Yakutia and Tuva. Other performers who will feature on the Second Stage program during the Globaltica weekend include Israeli percussionist Asaf Sirkis, the Toy Vivo Duo also from Israel and Pink Freud.
