BT Digital Music Awards

The ceremony is over and the stars have headed home with their various accolades. There was more than one surprise during the course of the evening at the BT Digital Music Awards, as well as a number of performances by great bands and artists. In the end, it seems that Kylie Minogue and Coldplay have received the most attention.

The BT Digital Music Awards ceremony took place at Camdenโ€™s legendary Roundhouse on October 1, 2008. As usual it was a night filled with musicians, celebrities, industry professionals and, of course, music. Kylie has since received the most attention following her acceptance of two awards. The first one was for โ€˜Best Pop Artistsโ€™ โ€“ an award that it is clear she has earned the rights to receiving on more than one occasion during the course of her long and successful career as a pop artist. Her second award was the โ€˜Best Innovationโ€™ award for her website, Kylie Konnect (kyliekonnect.com), which allows fans to create their own profiles on the site dedicated to her.

Coldplay has likewise also received a lot of attention after walking away with both the โ€˜Best Rock/Indie Artistsโ€™ award and the โ€˜Best Official Music Websiteโ€™ award. Coldplay.com was the launching pad for their new hit single โ€˜Violet Hillโ€™, which was downloadable for free for the first six hours of their launch day. Legendary band Radiohead got the noteworthy accolade of โ€˜Artist of the Yearโ€™ and a lot of reference was made to their โ€˜pay what you likeโ€™ download experiment.

There were a number of other artists who also made it up to the stage to receive accolades. Wiley was given the โ€˜Best Urban Artistโ€™ award, while Hadouken! got โ€˜Best Electronic Artist or DJโ€™. iTunes won โ€˜Best Music Storeโ€™, while NME.com got โ€˜Best Music Magazineโ€™. Hospital Records podcast was honoured with the โ€˜Best Audio Podcastโ€™ award while The Zutons podcast took โ€˜Best Video Podcastโ€™. Planet Rock was applauded for being the โ€˜Best Radio Stationโ€™, while Download Festival Community was chosen for โ€˜Best Music Communityโ€™. The โ€˜Best Music Blogโ€™ went to StopCryingYourHeartOutnews.blogspot.com while โ€˜Best Mobile Campaignโ€™ went to Red Stripe Camden Crawl 2008 and โ€˜Best Digital Serviceโ€™ went to We7. The Bob Dylan album promotion was chosen for โ€˜Best Artists Promotionโ€™, while Vampire Weekend was given โ€˜Breakthrough Artist of the Yearโ€™. AvrilBandAids.com was chosen as the โ€˜Best Unofficial Music Siteโ€™ and the Gibson โ€˜robotโ€™ guitar was selected as the โ€˜Best Music Hardwareโ€™.
