Acclaimed Musician David Byrne

David Byrne is a musician who has explored and experienced all the different sides of the music industry. He has faced challenges, suffered disappointments, started new adventures and enjoyed moments of victory and achievement. Looking back on his career in music, he is an inspiration to future musicians, encouraging them not to give up and to continue fighting for their dreams no matter what the cost. Today, David Byrne is a singer, musician and songwriter who has awards like the Golden Globe, Grammy and Academy Awards to show for his extraordinary talent and creative abilities.

Born in Dumbarton, Scotland, on 14 May 1952, David Byrne spent less than two years in his country of birth before moving to Canada, as his father being offered a job in Hamilton, Ontario. Approximately seven years later the Byrne family moved again to settle down in Maryland, where David graduated from Lansdowne High School. He enrolled into Rhode Island School of Design in 1970, to study functional design, and also attended the Maryland Institute College of Art for a year, but his heart lay with music and he made the conscious decision to drop out after meeting two students who would significantly shape his life.

In the year 1974, David Byrne, together with Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, formed the band known as “Talking Heads”. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Byrne worked on many projects with other artists including the 1981 Brian Eno album named “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts”, as well as “The Catherine Wheel”, “In Spite of Wishing and Wanting”, and his most acclaimed work, the Cong Su and Ryuichi Sakamoto collaboration for the soundtrack of The Last Emperor. Of course the list of collaborations and achievements do not end there. His name is associated with names, productions and songs such as Young Adam, True Stories, Stop Making Sense, The Knee Plays from The CIVIL Wars, 10 000 Maniacs, Like Humans Do and Fatboy Slim.

David Byrne also managed to embark on a successful solo career as a photographer, attending exhibitions of his work all over the world and releasing his first book of photographs in 1995. He proved himself to be a visual artists and imaginative creator. He also founded, although he no longer has ties to the label, the Luaka Bop world music label. The musician, the songwriter and the artist, seems to know no limits. David Byrne went after every goal in life with energy, vigor and determination and succeeded in conquering one artistic industry after the next. And the world is waiting in anticipation to find out what the next creative mountain is that Byrne will climb.
