Join OMA’s 24-Hour Party

With the O Music Awards set to take place on June 19, 2013, music lovers can look forward to a 24-hour party with the entertainment lineup featuring more than 50 bands, including a host of today’s hottest artists and stars of the future. In 2012 MTV’s O Music Awards (OMA) and The Flaming Lips set a Guinness World Record for the most live performances in 24 hours with a road trip that included Memphis, Clarksdale, Oxford, Jackson, Hattiesburg, Biloxi, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. This year the festivities include a drum-a-thon, kicked off by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of Roots, and a competition to “Make a Band Famous”.

Make a Band Famous is a battle of the bands where music fans can boost up-and-coming acts into the limelight. Starting off with ten nominees, the competition calls on fans to vote for their favorite five, from which the ultimate winner will be chosen and announced on May 16. The winner will be promoted by O Music Awards sponsors MTV, CMT and VH1. Open to all genres, the competition will focus on originality and audience response.

The annual O Music Awards are designed to honor achievements in the collaboration of music and technology. Categories include Best Artists With A Cameraphone; Best Music App; Best Artist/Digital Entrepreneur; Best Music Hack; Best Online Concert Experience; Best Web-Born Artist; Beyond the Blog Award; Beyond the DJ; Digital Genius Award; Hottest Music NILF; Most Extreme Fan Outreach; Most Intense Social Spat; Must Follow Artist on Twitter; and WTF I Love This Award.

The inaugural O Music Awards ceremony took place on April 28, 2011, and although it is an annual awards event, the O Music Blog along with live events keep the award’s concept going throughout the year. Other Guinness World Records established during the O Music Awards include Longest Freestyle Rap and Longest Marathon Rapping, set by Chiddy of Chiddy Bang and Longest Team Dance Marathon.
