MTV Asia Awards a Real Blast

The MTV Asia Awards were held in Malaysia on Saturday and a large number of amazing Asian musicians were honored for their work and role in the industry. The winners showcased a wide selection of talents from different genres and countries, with finalists coming from as far a field as China, Malaysia, South Korea, the Philippines and Singapore to participate in the event and claim their prize.

The Biannual Asian music award ceremony is the most prestigious music award event in that part of the world, so it is considered a really big honor to be a part of it – let alone win one of the awards. This year’s MTV Asia Awards saw a number of Asian and international acts recognized for their talent, including the likes of The Script (Ireland), Super Junior (South Korea) and The Electrico (Singapore). Linkin Park were voted Asia’s Favorite International Artist while the award for Favorite Chinese Artist went to Lee Yu Chun, who won the Super Girl singing competition and has since graced the cover of Time Magazine. Stefanie Sun was voted Favorite Artist from Singapore, while Nicholas Teo was the Malaysian favorite and Super Junior was the best artist from Korea. During the show, a number of performances by artists from around the world saw to it that guests were kept entertained during the course of the ceremony.

This was the first time that Malaysia has played host to the MTV event, which was hosted by Jared Leto and Karen Mok. Previously the event has been held in Singapore and Thailand, so Malaysia was more than happy to step up to the plate and prove that they too could host the glamorous event with ease. The 2008 MTV Asia Awards marked the sixth edition of the award ceremony and a total of eighteen different awards were given out during the course of the event. The 3 000 guests in attendance were in a festive mood and made plenty of noise, adding to the festive atmosphere and showing that locals definitely know how to let their hair down and party. At the end of the day, the event proved to be the perfect platform to honor international and regional artists for their work in the industry and their musical achievements. It also provided a staging ground for exciting music collaborations. The night was one to remember and it certainly won’t be the last for Asia or Malaysia.
