Support Record Store Day 2013
Celebrated on the third Saturday of April each year, Record Store Day will take place on 20 April 2013, with thousands of independent record stores participating worldwide, bringing together artists and fans in a series of entertaining events. This annual event offers the opportunity for artists to meet and greet fans and fans to mingle with some of their favorite artists. The occasion is marked by the release of special limited edition vinyl and CD albums, as well as a variety of unique promotional items as mementos of Record Store Day 2013, with some venues featuring special appearances and performances.
Founded in 2007 by Michael Kurtz, Eric Levin, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Brian Poehner and Don Van Cleve, the event has grown each year, with more and more famous musicians, artists and performers joining the ranks of participants in an event that focuses on the important role record stores play in the music world – a role that may easily be overlooked in the high-tech digital world we live in.
The official ambassador for RSD 2013 will be Jack White of the White Stripes, with the occasion being marked by a reissue of their album Elephant in vinyl – black and red on one side and white on the other. Other special limited edition vinyl record releases include See Emily Play by Pink Floyd; Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die by Willie Nelson; Handwritten by The Gaslight Anthem; Hybrid Theory and One Step Closer by Linkin Park; The Stars (Are Out Tonight) by David Bowie; Wigwam by Bob Dylan; Recovery by Frank Turner; Because the Night by Garbage and Screaming Females; Black Chandelier by Biffy Clyro; Demosexual by Atmosphere; and Synth or Soul by Black Milk.
A highlight of Record Store Day 2013 is the US premiere of the film Last Shop Standing: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of the Independent Record Shop will take place at a number of record stores. The film is based on the book by Graham Jones and directed by Pip Piper.
